Key Responsibilities
- Model hydrodynamic and mechanical noise generation mechanisms (e.g., flow noise, cavitation, coupled structural vibration) of targets of interest.
- Translate physical phenomena into acoustic emission models for system performance modeling.
- Define parametrized models capturing variability across operating conditions (speed, sea state, depth, configuration).
- Establish realistic parameter brackets for target kinematic parameters and underwater acoustic signatures.
- Quantify uncertainties and sensitivities for robust system-level predictions.
- Generate synthetic or semi-synthetic datasets using physics-informed models.
- Define features derived from first principles for classification models.
- Support development of classification models leveraging physics-based principles.
- Support development of pure data-driven ML/AI models ensuring physically plausible patterns.
- Derive physics-based explanations from data-driven models to support stakeholders' decisions.
