Key Responsibilities
- Leading a team of engineers, owning both its delivery and its development
- Lead a mindset and process of continuous improvement within the team
- Responsible for the professional well-being and career development of team members
- Develop the next layer of leadership - tech leads, senior engineers ready to manage, and ICs ready to step into staff roles
- Write code and review code
- Drive the team's architectural and technical design decisions in partnership with senior ICs
- Uphold engineering standards through thorough, constructive pull-request review and a healthy release process
- Work AI-augmented and lead an AI-augmented team
- Own the team's commitments - what was promised, when it was promised, and the quality bar that was held
- Run a disciplined cadence of planning, prioritization, and delivery
- Partner closely with the Technical Product Owner and Product team on scope, sequencing, and tradeoffs
- Understand the broader business objectives behind the work and translate that context for the team
- React decisively to change - re-planning, re-prioritizing, and re-staffing as the business moves
- Own hiring for your team
- Recruit, coach, and make hard calls toward the standard the team is held to
- Operate as a role model for other engineering managers across the organization
- Communicate clearly and succinctly upwards to leadership
- Empower senior engineers to own key areas of the product
- Partner effectively with Product, Design, GTM, Customer Success, and other teams
